"Hula is the language of the heart and therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people." -David (Kawika) La' amea Kalakaua King of Hawai'i, 1874 to 1891 Hula is not just a dance, it is truly poetry in motion. A hula dancers graceful hands, swaying hips and facial expression tells the story to the delight of an audience. I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and have been dancing hula since the age of 5. In 1987 I began sharing my love of hula with others and Lord willing, will continue to do so for many years to come. I invite you to join me and share my love of Hula, Hawaiian Culture and all that is Aloha at International Arts Academy. Students will learn the basic hula movements and hand motions…progressing to the use of implements & chants. Students should arrive 10-15 minutes early to stretch out before class begins. **Private lessons are available for anyone wanting to learn Hula for a special occasion.** |
